 Breakthrough Scientific Discoveries

 As currently defined, the Brain Wave Patterns and states are:  Gamma, emitting 34 to 100 cycles per second (or Hertz Hz) indicates a state of heightened awareness, a relationship to the memory process, consolidating information and precognition;  Beta, 13 to 38 Hz, where we operate most of our waking hours: alert, thinking, concentrating and a new subcategory with Beta relates to sensory motor rhythm;  Alpha, 8 to 12 Hz, meditating, self-introspection, being creative and intuitive, bridging,  and visualizing;  Theta, 4 to 7 hz, deeper meditative state,* hypnotic, personal insight and spiritual awareness;  Delta, 0 to 3 hz, the deep sleep state characterized by REM (rapid eye-movement) dreaming, and restorative/healing to the body.  Some of these waves appear simultaneously with specific functions.  For example, both gamma and alpha are present in memory related functions.                             

We have personally experienced the benefits of several technologies.  We began with meditations, such as the 5-minute free meditation below this article, and progressed through use of audio cds of 10 to 60 minutes.

FAST RELIEF FROM STRESS:
Five Minute Meditation to Calm and Refresh Mind and Body

Read the Instructions through completely, and when you are physically and mentally prepared, begin.

  1. Sit comfortably, either in a chair or on the floor, in a quiet place for your first meditation.
  2. Close your eyes and focus your attention on how each part of your body feels. Note any tightness or discomfort and adjust your position to increase comfort.
  3. Next, focus on your breathing.  If possible, inhale and exhale through your nose. Note the sensation of the air entering the nose, the throat, the lungs; then the sensations of air leaving the body.
  4. Gradually and gently slow and deepen each breath.
  5. Feel the breath filling the chest, the lungs, inflating the abdomen.
  6. Feel the breath floating upward with each exhale, and feel your body relaxing more deeply with each breath.  Feel your heart beating more slowly and easily.
  7. After several minutes, slowly and gently return to outer awareness by moving fingers, hands, toes and feet, opening your eyes and focusing on how your body feels.

Helpful Tips:  If you find conscious thoughts invading your attention, acknowledge them, then bring your focus back to your breathing and your body.  Each time you repeat the meditation, it becomes easier to maintain focus.

(On desperate occasions I have escaped to a bathroom, or my parked car to do this meditation)
